mFranklin County Militia

We are a civic organization of concerned citizens of Franklin County Virginia that advocates for the preservation of natural and Constitutional rights.
Our advocacy and outreach are expressed in our actions throughout the community.

We vigorously defend our beliefs in the public square of the body politic by speaking in support of our shared principles and the love of our County, Commonwealth, and Country.

Examples of this are our members speaking about proposed legislation and current events or regulations that directly affect our natural rights. Members will be attending board of supervisor meetings, school board meetings and writing letters to the editors of local newsprint to better inform the public of our activities and what we can do to preserve our essential liberties. We will support elected officials who exhibit a history of defending our natural and constitutional rights. We will work to organize, campaign against and defeat any candidates and elected or appointed officials that fail to defend the founding principles of our Republic, or those who advocate for the restriction or infringement of our natural rights. We will work with other like-minded groups to achieve these objectives.

We will not be silent anymore.

We are community organizers. We help people find and build groups throughout the county that work to organize themselves to practice and prepare for potential disasters of manmade or natural origin. These groups form a loosely affiliated network that prepares to assist one another in times of need. The origin of the militia is people coming to the defense of people. Neighbors helping neighbors. This is what we do.

Examples of this are the multitudes of groups around the county that specialize in various aspects of preparedness. Garden clubs, HAM radio communications groups, medical preparedness and emergency response groups, orienteering groups, neighborhood improvement groups, hiking and wilderness activity groups, airsoft groups and neighborhood defense groups. We have fun and build camaraderie while improving our skills to be better citizens. Many of these neighborhood groups focus some time and attention on personal defense and marksmanship skills for those that are interested in these aspects of preparedness.

We participate in charity and public outreach campaigns that directly benefit the citizens of our county.
An example of this is our participation in the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office “Operation Christmas Joy”. Our members generously donated well over 200 toys and gifts so that more than 50 economically disadvantaged families could have gifts to give their children for the holidays. Our affiliated groups also quietly participated in several other campaigns throughout the county. Members gave gifts and support to a single mother going thru cancer treatment. Members gave support and needed items to a family that had suffered a house fire. Members made a donation to support a food bank program for disadvantaged youth at a school in one of our communities. And we also help our own members and their families during times of crisis. Our members are good and generous people.

Our members are preparing to respond to natural disasters. We are building the infrastructure and organization to assist the county government should they ask for our assistance. In the winter of 2020-2021, the militia in Halifax and Dinwiddie Counties, at the request of the county government and emergency response officials, were able to assist the local government clear ice felled trees from roads throughout the counties. Members responded with organized chainsaw teams that worked in conjunction with the county Sheriffs using HAM radio communication. These teams worked to clear roads of felled trees so that fire and EMT service could be restored as quickly as possible. Other food and supply drives have been undertaken by various militia throughout the Commonwealth to assist neighboring counties affected by these natural disasters.

This is an essential part of responsible citizenship and service in the militia. We seek to be prepared to meet these responsibilities for our members and all citizens of Franklin County, Virginia.
We stand steadfast in our beliefs of the founder’s vision for our great Republic. We are not an anti-government organization. We believe that the founders created the Constitution, our social contract, in order to preserve the natural rights endowed to us by The Creator. We believe The Constitution is a limiting document that clearly defines that government only serves by the consent of the governed and that the meaning and intent of the Bill of Rights was clear and essential to the foundation of our Republic. We seek to exercise ALL of our rights and we will work against any persons or agency that seeks to infringe on those rights using ALL legitimate means of resistance as expressed by the founding fathers in our Declaration of independence and Constitution. We will use every resource at our disposal to defend ourselves, our families, our members and our neighbors and fellow citizens.

We are the unorganized militia as described in the Virginia constitution and subsequent statutes:
“The militia of the Commonwealth of Virginia shall consist of all able-bodied residents of the Commonwealth who are citizens of the United States and all other able-bodied persons resident in the Commonwealth who have declared their intention to become citizens of the United States, who are at least 16 years of age and, except as hereinafter provided, not more than 55 years of age. The militia shall be divided into three classes: the National Guard, which includes the Army National Guard and the Air National Guard; the Virginia Defense Force; and the unorganized militia.” 44-1 And: Article I of The Virginia Constitution. Bill of Rights
Section 13. Militia; standing armies; military subordinate to civil power That a well regulated militia, composed of the body of the people, trained to arms, is the proper, natural, and safe defense of a free state, therefore, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed; that standing armies, in time of peace, should be avoided as dangerous to liberty; and that in all cases the military should be under strict subordination to, and governed by, the civil power.

In the 18th century, the definition of “well regulated” was; ‘in working order’ or, ‘well trained’.
In order for us to fulfill our responsibility, we must therefore prepare ourselves for militia service. The passage of the militia acts or the 1903 Dick Act does not relieve or prevent us from our responsibility or right to prepare for service in the unorganized militia. Anyone who tells you otherwise is being disingenuous.
We are your friends and neighbors. We are tradesmen and women. Farmers and factory workers. Professionals and laborers. Fathers and mothers. Brothers and sisters. We are citizens of Franklin County Virginia who stand united in our belief that ALL citizens have the natural rights endowed by our Creator and affirmed by our state and Federal Constitutions. We will defend those rights from those that seek to restrict or infringe them.
